China is preparing to launch a modern logistics center in Uzbekistan's Namangan region with the participation of Qingdao Wanlin Group, aimed at strengthening the agricultural supply chain and expanding opportunities for storage and exports. This was reflected in a statement by the Uzbek Ministry of Agriculture, following a meeting between the Agriculture Ministry and Qingdao Wanlin Group CEO Li Yantao in the Chust district of the Namangan region on August 12. During the visit, the Uzbek side offered the Chinese company a 3-hectare site in the Namangan Free Economic Zone for the logistics center.
The proposed location has access to essential infrastructure, including a railway network, which could facilitate the transportation of agricultural products. The project is designed to bring several stages of the agricultural value chain into a single system, from production and storage to sorting, laboratory testing, and distribution to domestic and international markets. The Uzbek side also presented available land in Chust district that could be used to expand agricultural production.
Chinese representatives were briefed on Uzbekistan’s investment incentives, the region’s agricultural potential and existing infrastructure. The proposed logistics center is expected to strengthen the agricultural value chain in Namangan by expanding storage capacity, improving the preparation of products for export and introducing modern laboratory infrastructure. The project could also provide additional opportunities for Uzbek agricultural producers to access international markets by improving logistics, quality control and post-harvest processing.
The initiative comes as Uzbekistan seeks to attract foreign investment into agricultural infrastructure and increase the share of value-added products in its agricultural exports. Following the visit, the Chinese company is expected to proceed with technical and economic assessments of the project and develop the necessary preliminary documentation.
