Tajikistan and China discussed preparations for upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meetings and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation within the organization. This was reflected in the statement by the Tajik MFA, following a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Idibek Kalandar and China’s Ambassador to Tajikistan Guo Zhijun on August 13. According to the ministry, the sides exchanged views on key issues on the SCO agenda, with particular attention given to preparations for several upcoming high-level meetings. ''Furthermore, the sides reviewed preparations for the SCO Summit of Heads of State, scheduled to take place in Bishkek from August 31 through September 1, 2026,'' the statement says.

They also discussed preparations for the SCO Council of Heads of Government, which will be held in Dushanbe on October 19-20, 2026. The upcoming meetings are expected to bring together senior officials from SCO member states to address regional cooperation and priorities within the organization. ''During the meeting, the sides held a detailed exchange of views on current issues on the SCO agenda, including preparations for the upcoming meetings of the organization,'' Tajikistan’s Foreign Ministry said. The discussions highlight the importance Tajikistan and China attach to coordination within the SCO as the organization prepares for a series of high-level meetings in the coming months.

The sides expressed readiness to maintain constructive dialogue and further strengthen cooperation within the framework of the SCO. The meeting also reflects ongoing diplomatic consultations between Dushanbe and Beijing ahead of key regional events, with both sides seeking to coordinate positions and support continued cooperation through the multilateral organization.
