Uzbekistan and Iran held a new round of political consultations in Tehran, reviewing bilateral relations and prospects for expanding economic, investment and transport cooperation. This was reflected in the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistran, following a meeting between the foreign ministries of Uzbekistan and Iran on August 17. Uzbekistan’s delegation was led by First Deputy Foreign Minister Bakhromjon Aloyev, while Iran’s delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi.

The sides reviewed the current state of Uzbek-Iranian relations and prospects for further development, with particular attention to strengthening political dialogue and expanding practical cooperation. Trade, economic and investment cooperation were among the key areas discussed. The sides also considered opportunities to strengthen transport and transit links, which could play an important role in expanding connectivity between Central Asia and international markets.

Cultural and humanitarian exchanges were also included on the agenda, alongside cooperation within international and regional organizations. The officials also exchanged views on current regional and international issues of mutual interest, reflecting the broader role of Uzbekistan-Iran relations in addressing regional economic and diplomatic priorities. The consultations come as Tashkent and Tehran continue efforts to deepen bilateral economic ties and expand practical cooperation across multiple sectors.

Strengthening transport and transit links remains particularly significant for Uzbekistan, which is seeking to diversify trade routes and improve access to international markets through regional transport corridors. The sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular consultations and developing new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and Iran.
