Uzbekistan’s Khorezm region has emerged as a major destination for investment and entrepreneurship, with $4 billion in foreign investment flowing into the region and 10,000 new production capacities launched in recent years, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said. This was reflected in the statement on the Official channel of the Press Secretary of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, following an open dialogue with the country’s business community in Khorezm region. Speaking during an open dialogue with entrepreneurs in Khorezm, Mirziyoyev highlighted the new opportunities created for businesses and investors across the region.
The Hazorasp Special Economic Zone and 31 industrial zones have been established to support investment and industrial development. Two power plants with a combined capacity of 275 megawatts were also built in Tuproqqala and Yangiarik districts, helping provide businesses with a more stable electricity supply. Small businesses now account for 72% of Khorezm’s economy, while their share of regional exports has reached 81%, putting Khorezm at the top among Uzbekistan’s regions by this indicator.
Transport connectivity has also expanded significantly. Weekly air services to the region have increased from 16 to 102 flights, while the number of weekly rail services has risen from eight to 41. The launch of the Tashkent-Khiva high-speed train and construction of the new 35-kilometer Urgench-Khiva road are expected to further improve connectivity and support tourism and business activity.
Tourism infrastructure has expanded alongside transport links. The Arda Khiva tourism complex has been developed on 25 hectares, while local entrepreneurs have established 331 hotels and guesthouses with a combined capacity of 7,000 beds. Khorezm is expected to welcome 3 million foreign tourists in 2026, according to the Uzbek authorities.
Another major tourism project, the Sahro Yulduzi complex, is planned in Khiva and will include hotels, retail facilities and entertainment venues. The president emphasized that investment, infrastructure, tourism and private-sector development are increasingly reinforcing one another in the region, creating new opportunities for businesses and supporting economic growth.
