The San Francisco 49ers could be without one of their key wide receivers for a decent amount of time. While speaking with ESPN's Nick Wagoner, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan shared that wide receiver Demarcus Robinson is believed to have suffered a high right ankle sprain. With the 49ers already dealing with injury trouble at the wide receiver position, it is certainly concerning to hear that Robinson is believed to have an ankle sprain.
The 32-year-old suffered his injury during the 49ers' Week 2 matchup against the Miami Dolphins, where they won by a 35-13 final score. Robinson left the 49ers' game midway through the second quarter and had to be carted off the field. Robinson is a solid part of the 49ers' offense, so it would be very bad news if he ends up needing to miss time due to his ankle injury.
This is especially so when noting that San Francisco is already shorthanded on offense right now due to their injury trouble. Robinson suffering his injury could also very well lead the 49ers to bring in a free agent wide receiver to improve their depth at the position. Robinson has appeared in two games this season with the 49ers, where he has recorded one touchdown, five receptions, and 84 receiving yards.
This is after the 11-year NFL veteran had one touchdown, 22 receptions, and 276 receiving yards in 14 games with San Francisco last season.
