The San Francisco 49ers have had a great start to this season, as evidenced by their perfect 5-0 record. Given how well the 49ers have played so far this season, it is inevitable that they will be buyers ahead of the trade deadline. When looking at the 49ers' roster, it is clear that they would benefit by adding another high-impact wide receiver to their roster.
Due to this, they are now being urged to make a trade for a notable wide receiver from the Jacksonville Jaguars. In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Alex Kay urged the 49ers to acquire wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. from the Jaguars in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick. With the 49ers needing another wide receiver, it makes sense that Kay viewed Thomas as a strong potential trade target for them.
If the 49ers landed him, he would provide them with a young wide receiver who has shown promise early on in his career. Thomas has played in five games this season with the Jaguars, where he has recorded one touchdown, nine receptions, and 105 receiving yards. This was after he had two touchdowns, 48 receptions, and 707 receiving yards during the 2025 season.
Yet, Thomas' rookie season in 2024 is exactly why he is a player who the 49ers should take a gamble on. During that season, he had 10 touchdowns, 87 receptions, 1,282 receiving yards, and made the Pro Bowl. Perhaps getting traded to a top team like San Francisco could help him regain this form.
