A Glorious Seven-Mile City Run in the Brooks Hyperion Elite 6

Content creator Eric Tai returns to his running roots ahead of his hometown marathon.

Running and lifestyle content creator Eric Tai’s most recent low was a broken foot he suffered in a marathon earlier this year in London, when he collided with another runner at mile 12. Tai heard the “crunch” and felt the pain immediately, but he fought through it for the next 14-plus miles to finish the race in a respectable 2:54:17, considering he was running on a broken fifth metatarsal. The following months got even lower for Tai as he grappled with “an injury that took running away from me and a recovery I wasn’t sure I’d make it through.” But through patience and determination, make it through is exactly what he did, and now he’s only days away from experiencing another high: his hometown marathon where the city comes alive.

Teaming up with Brooks and Runner’s World, Tai laces up the Brooks Hyperion Elite 6 in the above video to bring you on a pre-race taper run through New York—where he first fell in love with running years ago. The workout begins at sunrise in Chinatown, crosses the Brooklyn Bridge, then goes through Tribeca and along the Hudson River. He finishes the seven-mile taper lying faceup, eyes closed, grinning ear to ear on the green grass of Central Park.

His foot is fully healed and the lows of London are behind him. All he feels now is his latest version of the “runner’s high” in the city he loves.
