The reigning WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces have played up-and-down basketball since the All-Star break, but A'ja Wilson is as great as ever. On Thursday night, the Aces (25-13) pummeled the Connecticut Sun (9-26) by a score of 101-78. Wilson posted 20 points, four assists, and three rebounds.
In the process, she made her 2,400th career field goal. Earlier this season, Wilson became the fastest player to hit 6,000 points in WNBA history. Wilson is the reigning WNBA MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and WNBA Finals MVP.
She's the only player in WNBA history to win four WNBA MVP awards, and she has a legitimate case to win the WNBA MVP award this season, too. Wilson leads the WNBA in scoring (26.1 points per game) and blocks (2.1 per game). Wilson takes every mind-boggling accomplishment in stride, as evidenced by how she responded to people calling her the GOAT last month.
"It's crazy," Wilson told ESPN's Malika Andrews. "When people say it, it's truly crazy because you think about so many people that have been on this list of GOATs, and I just wouldn't imagine my name being on it at this point of my career. I'm just like, 'Uh-uh, I still got so much to do.
I still have to keep going. I want more.' So when people say it, I'm like, thanks, but what?" Wilson added, "If I'm the GOAT, cool, I'm there. In my eyes, I've been the GOAT since '96, so this is just a part of it." The Aces will visit the Toronto Tempo on Sunday, Aug. 23, before hosting the Tempo on Friday, Aug. 28.
Then, the WNBA will take a multi-week hiatus for the 2026 FIBA women's basketball World Cup in early September.
