The Japanese actor and narrator known for his gentle voice, died suddenly of an unknown cause earlier this month.

Reo Morimoto, a Japanese actor and narrator known for his gentle voice, died on Sept. 4. Morimoto, whose real first name was Haruyuki, was from Nagoya. His agency said Friday that he died suddenly of an unknown cause.

Morimoto made his acting debut in the 1967 drama series “Koukousei Jidai” on public broadcaster NHK. He gained popularity as a narrator thanks to his distinctive and calm delivery. His notable roles include those in the television drama series “Kiiroi Namida” (Yellow Tears) and “Ai to Iu Na no Moto ni” (In the Name of Love) as well as the film “Kids Return.” He narrated a number of variety shows and commercials and was well known for his narration in the children’s series “Thomas & Friends.”
