Alanis Morissette is here to remind you of the Christ-mess that you left when you went away. Look, you try to come up with a better pun. You thought of Jingled Little Pill and realized it was hopeless?
Yeah, that's what I thought. My friend, this is what I do. Alanis Morissette announces her first-ever holiday album, and I give you "the Christ-mess that you left when you went away." That's not just great music blogging.
That's a Christmas miracle. Next month, Alanis Morissette will bless the world with her new yuletide collection Good Weather For Immaculate Conception. I actually don't know the answer to that question.
The record includes two newly written songs, which have the very funny titles "Christmas On The Dance Floor" and "To An Empath At Christmas Time." It's also got Morissette reinterpreting a bunch of holiday classics, sometimes with special guests. Today, Morissette shares the album's lead single, her take on "Beautiful Star Of Bethlehem," a gospel hymn most famously recorded by the Judds. Her take on it features Brandi Carlile and comedy legend/bluegrass musician Steve Martin.
Morissette and Carlile recently performed together at Red Rocks, and Martin just took part in an all-star roots-music cover of Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road." Martin's longtime collaborator and Only Murders In The Building co-star Martin Short also appears on Morissette's LP, but on a completely different song. The album also has appearances from Joy Oladokun, Amythyst Kiah, and the British trans choir known as Trans Voices. Below, you'll find Morissette's take on "Beautiful Star Of Bethlehem" and the Good Weather For Immaculate Conception tracklist.
