The Auburn Tigers will welcome the Florida Gators for their first SEC clash of the year on Saturday night, pitting new program leaders Alex Golesh and Jon Sumrall against each other. Golesh and Sumrall have strong familiarity with each other from their time as head coaches in the American Conference. Both coaches found success with their previous programs, Golesh with USF and Sumrall with Tulane.
Golesh was asked about his relationship with Sumrall when speaking to reporters on Monday. Not this week we’re not,” Golesh said. We were both assistants in this league at the same time, and he did a great job at Troy, high-end job at Troy.
Did a high-end job at Tulane. I’ve got a ton of respect for how he works, ton of respect for who he is," the Auburn coach continued. "I think he does it the right way, competes like crazy.
I’ve got a lot of respect for him. This week, don’t care.” Auburn opened up its 2026 season with a closely-contested win over Baylor and a dominant victory over Southern Miss. Florida notched blowout wins over Florida Atlantic and Campbell to begin their 2026 campaign.
Saturday's game will kickoff at 7 p.m. ET from Auburn's Jordan-Hare Stadium.
