Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager underwent surgery on his right elbow to remove a bone spur on Tuesday. The Rangers did not announce when Seager will return. Seager, 32, struggled with injury in 2026 landing on the injured list three times throughout the season—none of which were for his elbow issue.

He first went to the IL with lower back inflammation in May before a brief trip to the concussion injured list in June. He landed back on the injured list in July with back inflammation yet again. He played just 102 games for the Rangers in 2026, which is the exact total he played the year prior.

He has only played 150 games or more on one occasion since joining the Rangers from the Los Angeles Dodgers, coming in the 2022 season—his first with the team. Seager, through his five years with the Rangers, has 597 games under his belt, posting a .849 OPS with 137 homers and 354 RBIs during his time in the American League. He helped the Rangers to a World Series title in 2023, the first in franchise history, winning World Series MVP following a torrid postseason.

Seager is a key player for the Rangers, and they'll hope he can make his return before the beginning of next year. The Rangers narrowly missed out on the postseason this year, finishing just one game behind the Houston Astros in an incredibly weak AL West. Seager certainly would have made a difference for his team if he played any of the 60 games he missed throughout the season, so the Rangers are sure to want him back come the beginning of the 2027 season.

He only had a .736 OPS on the year with 20 homers and 51 RBIs, a step down from his usual production, but his presence in the lineup certainly would have made a difference for his team. For the time being, the five-time All-Star will focus his offseason on recovery as he looks to have a healthy season for just the second time this decade and bring his team back to the postseason for the first time since 2023.
