A movie adaptation of DreadXP’s indie video game series “Amanda the Adventurer” is in the works at Blumhouse. Based on the indie puzzle-horror video game franchise of the same name from developer MANGLEDmaw Games, “Amanda the Adventurer” follows Riley Park, who starts exploring her reclusive Aunt Kate’s house after she passes away and leaves the house to Riley. Per the description for the game, “In the attic, Riley is surprised to find a stack of VHS tapes next to an old TV set.
The tapes seem to be episodes of an early 2000’s era children’s cartoon they have never seen before. Intrigued, Riley pops the first tape into the VCR. Not the highest budget production from the looks of it.
It appears to have been made locally and features a little girl named Amanda and her loyal yet shy best friend, Wooly the Sheep. While the episode appears charming and simple on the surface, an uneasiness starts to settle in as Riley realizes that Amanda and Wooly seem to be communicating directly through the television set. A gnawing feeling in the back of their mind presses them to stop, but Riley is compelled to continue watching the tapes.
It’s almost as if Amanda needs something, and Riley becomes fascinated with finding out what that something may be.” The “Amanda the Adventurer” film project will be spearheaded by Matthew “MatPat” Patrick, the former-host of the “Theory” channels on YouTube, and was revealed by Patrick and Jason Blum on stage at the Blumfest panel at New York Comic Con on Friday. Patrick was the moderator for the Blumfest panel and Blum opened the show by revealing Blumhouse has struck a multi-project deal with Patrick, beginning with the “Amanda the Adventurer” movie. The duo said they are currently in talks with potential writers and directors for the film and more details will be revealed soon.
Along with MatPat and Blum, the “Amanda the Adventurer” adaptation will also be produced by Epic Pictures CEO Patrick Ewald. Best known for his popular YouTube channels, Patrick has also hosted the reality competition show “The Runner” (from executive producers Matt Damon and Ben Affleck) and landed voice-acting roles in a “Transformers” web series and Blumhouse’s “Five Nights at Freddy’s” film franchise. He also co-produced the Tony-nominated Broadway play “Grey House” and the West End musical “Your Lie” in April.
He is represented by Dan Levitt, The.Team.
