A migrant caravan that originated in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, began moving through southern Mexico recently with hopes of reaching the U.S.-Mexico border. The caravan is predominantly made up of Hondurans, Guatemalans, Salvadorans, Ecuadorians and Haitians and has reportedly swelled to more than 600 participants. Border Patrol (USBP) has coordinated closely with its international partners to monitor the caravan’s movement and developments along its route.
The message from the United States should be unambiguous: the open border you're counting on no longer exists. Since taking office, the Trump administration has enforced a consistent policy: anyone who enters the country illegally will be apprehended, prosecuted and removed in accordance with federal law. Democrats have attacked, and continue to attack, the policies that have made this enforcement possible, and some have gone so far as to hold Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding hostage.
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), an increasingly influential faction within their party, has called for amnesty for illegal aliens, taxpayer-subsidized health care for illegal aliens and the abolition of critical federal law enforcement agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). These positions, which are gaining traction within the mainstream of the Democratic Party, undermines public safety and fiscal responsibility. It is worth recalling the scale of the crisis inherited from the Biden-Harris administration's border policies.
Although Democrats no longer occupy the White House, the consequences of those policies did not disappear with the transfer of power. The Trump administration has spent nearly 17 months addressing a problem years in the making. When the Biden-Harris administration was sworn into office, it issued executive orders dismantling years of robust border security measures implemented by the first Trump administration to protect Americans from foreign threats.
Over the course of four years, the Biden-Harris administration pushed sweeping policy changes that resulted in major vetting failures, undermined of federal law enforcement, altered the implementation of asylum policies and destroyed deterrence measures, including Remain in Mexico. The effects of these policies made every state in America a border state. We saw record levels of illegal immigration, which drove up housing and rent costs.
Thousands of families suffered tragic losses because illicit drugs freely flowed across our borders. Potential terrorists and criminals were released into the interior endangering the lives of Americans. When President Donald Trump took office, his administration moved quickly to reverse the harmful Biden-era policies and restore law and order.
