Angel Reese rewrote the WNBA history books on Monday night, breaking multiple records with a dominant performance against the Los Angeles Sparks. The Atlanta Dream star was a force on the boards, collecting a whopping 26 rebounds, giving her the WNBA record for most rebounds in a single game. That wasn't all, though, as Reese also broke the record for most rebounds in a season.
During the game, she grabbed her 452nd rebound, which broke the record previously set by A'ja Wilson. Reese had six more rebounds from there, so she now has 458 rebounds in her historic season, and her season is not even over yet. "I don't think in my life I got more than 10 rebounds in my life. I'm just in awe watching her rebound. That's just a talent," she said in postgame comments.
The NBC/Peacock postgame show also featured Reese, and she spoke about her rebounding mindset after her historic night. "Anything that goes up is mine. You just have to have that mindset," she told the crew, including all-time great Tina Charles.
She also credited being able to watch all-time great players like Charles and said she wants to become one of those greats in her WNBA career. Reese is certainly putting herself in that category in just her third season, as she now also has two of the top three rebounding seasons in league history, with Wilson having the other. To say Reese had an impressive night is an understatement.
She outrebounded her teammates 26-22 to help them get the victory. On the opposing side, retiring Sparks legend Nneka Ogwumike tallied 16 rebounds in a double-double night. The Dream also picked up a 78-71 win over the Sparks, improving to 25-13 on the season.
