Jake Moody found another landing spot after a nomadic 2025 season. The Baltimore Ravens signed Moody and 14 other players to their practice squad on Monday. Moody could compete for their starting kicker job after a rocky preseason from Tyler Loop.
A 2023 third-round pick out of Michigan, Moody backed the San Francisco 49ers' lofty draft investment by making 21 of 25 field goals. That promising rookie campaign made way for a disastrous second season in which he missed 10 field goals. Moody's issues began when he failed to give the 49ers a late 10-point lead during a Week 3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
He overcame three missed field goals to hit a game-winner against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Nov. 10 but missed two more kicks two weeks later. Although he went 2 of 6 from field-goal range and missed an extra point over the final three games, the 49ers retained Moody to start the 2025 season. They quickly changed course and released him after Moody missed 27- and 36-yard field goals in Week 1.
Moody made eight of nine field goals in two games with the Chicago Bears, including a 38-yard game-winner on the final play of his team debut. However, the Bears still cut him when Cairo Santos returned from a quad injury. Less than two months after defeating them with the Bears, Moody joined the Washington Commanders.
He went 10 of 11 in both field goals and extra points in six games, drilling both attempts from 50 yards or more (51 and 56) to close the regular season. The signing could signal trouble for Loop, who missed field goals from 49 and 58 yards during the preseason. Loop converted 88.4% of his field goals (30 of 34) as a rookie, but the Ravens fell short of the playoffs when he missed a 44-yard try in the closing minute of a 26-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers that decided the AFC North.
