Correction to: Nature Communications https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-025-67157-x, published online 11 December 2025 In the version of this article initially published, in the Fig. 2c Source Data and associated figure panel, Fig. 2c data were inadvertent duplicates of Fig. 2b data. The figure has been updated, and in the Fig. 2c legend, first paragraph of the Results and in the Supplementary Information result S1, the text “t(26) = 2.55, p = 0.017, R2 = 0.20, 95% CI [0.018, 0.172]; Fig. 2C, result. S1)” now replaces the original “(t(26) = 3.63, p = 0.001, R2 = 0.34, 95% CI [0.08, 0.30]; Fig. 2C, result.

S1).” Additional reporting corrections included the hippocampal–prefrontal connectivity statistic in the exemplar-copying control analysis (t(22) = 3.26, p = 0.004 to t(22) = 2.55, p = 0.018), the Fig. 6b statistics (t(38) = 2.72, pBonferroni = 0.02 to t(38) = 2.50, pBonferroni = 0.03), and minor adjustments to statistical values, confidence intervals and effect-size reporting in Figs. 3d, 4b and 6b,c legends and related Exp. 2 analyses. In Fig. 5b and d, the panel labels/positions were inadvertently interchanged, and the corresponding effect-size labels were corrected from R2 to Cohen’s dz. These amendments do not alter the direction or statistical significance of the reported effects, or the interpretation and conclusions of the article.

Apart from the Fig. 2c Source Data correction, the original experimental and Source Data remain unchanged. The relevant text, figure legends, figures and Supplementary Information have been updated accordingly. For comparison, the original Figs. 2 and 5 are available as Supplementary Information accompanying this amendment.
