Avatar Studios announced that Seven Havens will get two more season, and there's also a new prequel series in the works.

Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko reunited the original Gaang for Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender in July. On Oct. 9, Avatar: Seven Havens, the bold post-apocalyptic follow-up to The Legend of Korra, premiered to critical acclaim. DiMartino and Konietzko took the stage at New York Comic Con today to reveal an exciting update for the new show and discuss the future of the franchise.

Paramount had already greenlit Avatar: Seven Havens for two 13-episode seasons. The first three episodes released Oct. 9, and additional episodes from Book 1: Survival will be released Fridays through Oct. 30. The plot details that emerged from the first episodes hinted that this could be a more sprawling tale, and Paramount has renewed the series through Book 4.

Avatar: Seven Havens is more mystery-driven than the previous Avatar shows, slowly revealing the secrets of Avatar Pavi’s past, the nature of the Seven Havens, and what caused the cataclysm that ravaged the world. Fans looking for answers and behind-the-scenes details will be able to tune in to the official companion podcast Avatar: Braving the Elements, which is hosted by Janet Varney, the original voice of Korra, and Dante Basco, who played Prince Zuko on Avatar: The Last Airbender. New episodes featuring interviews with the series creators and cast will be released each week.

Konietzko revealed he’ll be serving as showrunner for Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, a new animated series produced by Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios. Set centuries before Aang’s birth, the series follows the rebellious teenage Avatar from the Northern Water Tribe as he bucks tradition to master the elements while traveling the world. Accompanied by his pet, Nikik, Kuruk is pursued by his own angry teachers while he deals with both spirits and pirates.

Kuruk first appeared in season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender, though he was referenced in season 1 by the malevolent spirit Koh, who stole the face of Kuruk’s fiance. The series will presumably provide more details on that conflict as well as some of the globe-trotting adventures that made Avatar: The Last Airbender so much fun.
