President Donald Trump and former president Barack Obama held rival campaign rallies in Ohio and Georgia on Wednesday, backing opposing candidates in closely watched races just days before the midterms. Trump spoke at Ohio University's Shoemaker Center in Chillicothe in support of gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and incumbent Senator Jon Husted. Walter Curt, a conservative leaning commentator, shared video and photographs from the rally, writing on X: "Outside the Chillicothe Rally.
President Trump arriving to speak shortly." The rally was attended by around 2,500 people, the local news outlet WBNS 10TV reported. Meanwhile, Obama spoke at The Arena at Southlake, south of Atlanta, in support of Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff and Keisha Lance Bottoms, the former Atlanta mayor who is running to become Georgia's governor. The rally was attended by between 3,500 to 4,000 people, according to The Guardian.
No official attendance figures have been released for either rally. The Arena at Southlake has seating for more than 8,000 guests, but the arena contains multiple facilities under one roof. Seth Taylor, a 2024 Democratic National Convention delegate, shared footage on X before and during the rally.
"I'm waiting in line outside the Obama-Ossoff-KLB rally here in Clayton County, Georgia. The doors don't open until 4 and this crowd is already way bigger than any of Trump's rallies here in Georgia. Later, from inside the rally, Taylor wrote: "My view from the nosebleeds inside the Obama-Ossoff-KLB rally here in Clayton County, Georgia.
There's like 10,000 people inside the arena! Let's go!" Newsweek contacted the White House and Obama for comment outside of regular working hours. This is a developing story.
