The Chicago Bears have been without starting quarterback Caleb Williams since he suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain during a Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Chicago won each of its next two games using two different starting quarterbacks: Case Keenum and Tyson Bagent. But with Bagent under center again in Week 5, the Bears dropped a disappointing 31-7 loss to the division-rival Green Bay Packers.
This blowout loss no doubt has the Bears even more eager to get Williams back on the field. Reports indicate that Williams has a good chance to take the field for this coming Sunday's Week 6 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. And while head coach Ben Johnson hasn't confirmed anything yet, he provided a positive update regarding his quarterback's status on Tuesday.
He’s itching to get back as soon as he can. When we get the green light, we’ll move forward from there," Johnson told reporters. The Bears are 3-2 to begin the 2026 season.
Williams put on a masterful performance in Week 1, recording 269 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, 65 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in a 59-37 win over the Carolina Panthers. Sunday's Week 6 matchup against the Falcons will kick off at 1 p.m.
