The Chicago Bears view themselves as legitimate Super Bowl contenders. But for as high-powered as their offense is, they need a strong defense to help them get there, and now they could be on the verge of losing one of their best young defenders. NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on Tuesday that the Bears have had trade talks surrounding former second-round pick and starting defensive tackle Gervon Dexter.
"There are multiple scenarios where a deal could get done, sending him to a new team," according to Schultz. Dexter may not be a household name yet, but he's one of the Bears' most important pieces along the defensive line. Since then, the 6-foot-6, 326-pound tackle has racked up 115 combined tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 42 quarterback hits, four fumble recoveries, three passes deflected, and 13.5 sacks. Those numbers might not jump off the page, but he started just one game as a rookie and has improved every year since, coming off a 2025 season in which he posted 44 total tackles, six tackles for loss, 11 QB hits, two fumble recoveries, and six sacks. Not only was that a career-high sack total, but it was the second-most on the team behind only Pro Bowl edge rusher Montez Sweat's 10.

The Bears don't have a ton of depth on the defensive line, so trading Dexter away, especially this close to the regular season, would be a bold maneuver.
