The Chicago Bears are still loading up for the 2026 season.

The Chicago Bears are bolstering their defensive line before the start of the 2026 NFL season. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Bears are signing former first-round defensive lineman Marcus Davenport, who previously played for Chicago defensive coordinator Dennis Allen when he was in New Orleans. Davenport, 29, has spent the past two seasons with the Detroit Lions, but he's been hampered by injuries.

In 2024, he suffered a season-ending triceps injury after just three games, and then in 2025, he suffered a chest injury in Week 2 that landed him on injured reserve until Week 13. Nonetheless, Davenport has been a productive player when healthy. He began his professional career as the No. 14 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Saints.

He spent the first five years of his NFL career in New Orleans, racking up 141 tackles, 21.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and four passes defensed. However, injuries started to pile up near the end of Davenport's tenure with the Saints. In 2022, he revealed that he had undergone five offseason surgeries, one of which was to address a pinkie finger issue that had plagued him since college and involved a partial amputation of it.

Davenport then joined the Minnesota Vikings in 2023, but a high ankle sprain limited him to just four games. A native of San Antonio, Texas, Davenport played college football at UTSA, where he had 185 tackles, 21.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and five passes defensed from 2014-17.
