A new Big 12 coach woke up his neighbors when he shot an armadillo that was ravaging his flower beds early in the morning.

First-year Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris pierced a lot of defensive armor when he was at North Texas. He woke up his new neighbors near Stillwater, Oklahoma, while trying to get rid of a pesky critter tearing up his landscaping. When speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Morris said he's having trouble sleeping at night while preparing the Cowboys during training camp.

While up early on a recent morning, he found time to take care of an armadillo that was digging up his flower beds. I don’t sleep very well,” Morris said, via video posted to X from Joe Mussatto of The Oklahoman. Finally, a couple of days ago, I just popped up at 2:30 (AM), because I couldn’t sleep and was thinking about something.

I thought it was a great opportunity to go outside, and luckily I found him. He was crushing my yard, my flower beds--digging everything up. But I got in at about 2:30.

I had to send a text message to my neighbors. I apologized for the gunshot. I am in the country, so it was legal.

But I did get rid of him.” More News: Kirk Herbstreit Calls Out Notre Dame for ‘Embarrassing’ Schedule More News: Three Teams That Can Win the Big 12 Morris' mind is racing before his first season leading Oklahoma State. He inherited a program with a lot of issues. OSU finished the 2025 campaign with a 1-11 record and went 0-9 in the Big 12.

The Cowboys' lone win was in their season opener, a 27-7 victory over UT Martin. Oklahoma State should be in a better position to succeed with Morris this fall. Morris went 22-16 during his three seasons with North Texas, and finished 11-2 in 2025.
