Bill Cowher Doesn't Rank Steelers Among Top-5 AFC Teams Ahead of Week 8

Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher omitted his old team from his AFC rankings before Week 8's Sunday games.

Bill Cowher showed no favoritism toward his former employer when breaking down the best AFC teams entering Week 8. The legendary Pittsburgh Steelers head coach ranked his top-five AFC teams Sunday morning on CBS's "NFL Today." Cowher, who led the Steelers to a Super Bowl during his 15 seasons, omitted his longtime organization. However, Cowher still likes what he's seeing from the Steelers, who are 5-2 ahead of Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns.

"But I do like the Pittsburgh Steelers, the way they're trending," Cowher said. "The offensive line has played better. Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle, now a one-two punch at the running back position.

Defensively, they're still playing strong." Cowher also shunned his longtime AFC North rival, the Baltimore Ravens, but the Cincinnati Bengals began his list at No. 5. He likes their "dynamic offense" under star quarterback Joe Burrow. They can play with anybody," Cowher said of the Bengals.

The Denver Broncos, who have the same record as Pittsburgh, made Cowher's rankings at No. 4 amid a three-game winning streak. Cowher then touted the Jacksonville Jaguars as a real contender as his No. 3 AFC squad. "I love the Jacksonville Jaguars," Cowher declared.

"I like myself some Trevor Lawrence. I like that defense that they have down there." Although he wants to see them acquire a wide receiver before the Nov. 10 trade deadline, Cowher put the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 2. Finally, the Buffalo Bills topped his rankings as the conference's "team to beat" ahead of a huge Sunday showdown against the Ravens.

The Steelers will look to earn more respect from Cowher and others when they play the Cleveland Browns in a battle for first place on Sunday.
