The Buffalo Bills have taken consistent steps back defensively over the last few seasons. Matt Milano, Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer, and Tremaine Edmunds led the league’s best unit in 2021, but their eventual departures led to slow and consistent downturns as their league rank in points allowed per game got worse across each of the next five seasons. 2021: 289 PPG Allowed (1st)2022: 286 PPG Allowed (2nd)2023: 311 PPG Allowed (4th)2024: 368 PPG Allowed (11th)2025: 365 PPG Allowed (12th) Cole Bishop and Christian Benford are the new leaders of an underrated secondary. Terrel Bernard and Dorian Williams are good young players on the second level.
Sanders, and Deone Walker make up an impressive interior. Chubb, having signed a three-year deal this offseason, is looking to bring some stability to the position, with his last three healthy seasons producing sack totals of 8.0, 11.0, and 8.5, and pressure totals of 51, 70, and 48.
If you put those numbers together across those three seasons, they’re higher than any of the names we previously mentioned. Chubb can obviously rush the passer, but can he stay healthy enough to make a real difference? New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was absolutely fantastic last season, but cracks started to show when he was pressured consistently in playoff matchups with the Houston Texans, Denver Broncos, and Seattle Seahawks.
The Bills will need the new guy to help them follow that formula if they want to return to the top of the AFC East.
