The second season of the Black Clover anime premiered on October 3, and in the week since its release, it has set a record on the anime streaming service Crunchyroll. As it stands, the first episode of Black Clover Season 2 is the most-liked anime premiere of 2026. Episode 171 of Black Clover, titled The Battle Begins, has 135,500 likes on Crunchyroll as of this writing.
While new seasons of anime like Jujutsu Kaisen and Frieren: Beyond's Journey End premiered on the anime subscription service this year, none have accrued that many likes. Fan reception to the episode is glowing, with an aggregate user score of 9.4 on IMDb. Fans have been waiting for more Black Clover for a long time and seem happy with what they got.
Between Oct. 2017 and March 2021, 170 episodes of Black Clover were produced and are all technically part of the show's first season. They followed the escapades of Asta, a boy born without magical powers in a world where everyone has them, who wields a five-leaf grimoire that gives him Anti-Magic powers. While a movie was released on Netflix in 2023 to tide fans over, anime fans hadn't gotten much else from Black Clover for over half a decade until last week.
The premiere, which begins to adapt the manga's Final Wizard King storyline, seems to have lived up to expectations. Now, over 135,000 people have shown their love for the series on Crunchyroll following its grand return. Episode 172, The Door to Hell, premiered on Crunchyroll today, Oct. 10, and has already gotten over 14,000 likes at the time of writing, showing that people are still liking the show.
Black Clover Season 2 is expected to run for 26 episodes, with the first 13 airing weekly between now and December. These new episodes will exclusively air on Crunchyroll.
