The Toronto Blue Jays had a very bad 2026 season and missed the postseason because of it. Now, the Blue Jays are entering an important offseason as they aim to get things back on track in 2027. Due to this, they are already being connected to one of this year's top pending unrestricted free agents.
According to The Athletic's Mitch Bannon, the Blue Jays are expected to target Chicago Cubs star outfielder Seiya Suzuki if he hits the free agent market this offseason. "This offseason, said a league source who spoke on condition of anonymity in order to discuss offseason plans, the Jays are expected to pursue Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki," Bannon wrote. With the Blue Jays needing help in their outfield and more power, it is not surprising to hear that they have Suzuki on their radar.
He would have the potential to be a strong addition to the front half of Toronto's batting order if successfully signed. Suzuki's numbers during his recent seasons show that he can be a difference-maker. In 143 games this season for Chicago, he recorded 26 home runs, 86 RBI, and a .270 batting average.
This is after he had 32 home runs, 103 RBI, and a .245 batting average in 151 games last season for Chicago. With Suzuki being one of this year's top pending UFAs, the Blue Jays will have a lot of competition to land him in free agency. It will be intriguing to see if they end up being the team that signs him from here.
