Browns Insider Slammed by Fans for Defending QB Deshaun Watson

Cleveland Browns fans weren't happy team insider Mary Kay Cabot advocated for Deshaun Watson to remain the team's starting QB.

It’s clear from the visceral reactions from Cleveland Browns fans both during the team’s Week 1 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and on social media that they do not want to see Deshaun Watson play anymore. The $230 million quarterback had a dreadful Week 1 performance, throwing for 205 yards, a touchdown, and an interception with a fumble and five sacks. There were calls for backup Shedeur Sanders to replace Watson mid-game, but head coach Todd Monken has since confirmed that Watson will be his starter again in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The decision was met with lots of criticism, but Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot believes Monken made the right call. I think it would be a knee-jerk reaction, and I think they should give him that game in Tampa to see if he can kind of rebound a little bit. He hadn’t played in 22 months.

He didn’t know if he could take a hit. He’s also playing on an offense right now that just hasn’t come together. … I think you have to chalk it up to one horrible game. If you put two horrible games together then you start to think, ‘OK, can you [start at] home on September 27?’” While Cabot’s opinion isn’t right or wrong, it clearly set off a large contingency of Browns fans who believe that she’s simply blindly defending Watson so as not to be critical as opposed to sharing in their righteous anger.

Cabot was raked over the coals on social media by those same fans. Worthless ‘opinion,’” one fan wrote. Best PR person they have,” another fan replied.

Mary Kay is friends with the Haslem’s and shouldn’t even be reporting on the Browns because of her bias 👎👎👎,” a third fan scoffed. We don’t want to hear her opinions. She’s nothing more than a mouthpiece for ownership.

Might be on Deshaun’s payroll too,” remarked another user.
