A slew of NFL teams have seen their starting quarterbacks go down with injuries early in the 2026 season, while the Cleveland Browns currently have three healthy signal-callers in Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders and rookie sixth-round pick Taylen Green. Former third-round pick Dillon Gabriel could also be coming off injured reserve later this fall. Watson, controversially, landed the starting job entering the campaign and since then, Sanders, Green and Gabriel have seen their names floated in trade rumors.
Cleveland.com Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot reported Sunday, however, that the team isn't planning to move Gabriel or Sanders. "Nevertheless, the Browns have no plans to trade away their No. 2 and No. 3 quarterbacks now or before the trade deadline Nov. 10," Cabot wrote. "There had been some (speculation) on sports talk radio and on social media that perhaps the Giants would have some interest in Sanders considering that the Ravens wanted to draft him in the fifth round last year when current Giants head coach John Harbaugh was in that capacity with the Ravens.
But the Browns are happy to have Sanders as their No. 2, with a chance of starting games this season." Watson has started the first two games of Cleveland's season, going 40-for-52 with 443 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception for a 112.9 passer rating. The 31-year-old has added 13 rushing attempts for 60 scoreless yards and led the Browns to a 1-1 record entering Week 3 versus the Carolina Panthers. Cabot reported that Cleveland's plans to hang onto their quarterbacks extend to Green as well.
"But the Browns plan to hang onto their young developmental quarterbacks, including fourth-teamer Taylen Green, who’s been serving as the inactive third QB, and will likely be inactive again on Sunday," she wrote. "Over the past three seasons, the Browns have started five, four and three quarterbacks respectively, and understand the importance of having a stable of starters that can step in at a moment’s notice."
