The Dallas Wings snapped the Indiana Fever's five-game winning streak with a 91-85 victory at American Airlines Center in Dallas on Thursday night. Fever All-Star guard Caitlin Clark and Wings All-Star guard Paige Bueckers each had an unusually quiet scoring night. Clark was held to 10 points on 4-for-15 shooting, though she still recorded her usual nine assists.
Bueckers posted 13 points on 5-for-16 shooting, eight assists, and six rebounds. Regardless, the two superstars still provided entertainment. Just before halftime, Bueckers intentionally fouled Clark.
Bueckers grabbed Clark's arm, who did not appreciate it at all. Clark became visibly animated and irritated, trying to bat Bueckers away. Clark made her feelings known to the referee, while Bueckers appeared to say to Clark, "Calm down." (Bueckers definitely said "calm down," but Amazon Prime Video's camera angle made it impossible to determine whether Bueckers was speaking to Clark.) Neither Bueckers nor Clark was made available to the media postgame for the Wings or Fever, respectively, so they unfortunately didn't provide any further insight.
Thursday's game was the last in the Fever and Wings' regular-season series, with Dallas going 2-1 against Indiana, so we'll have to wait for a potential playoff series for another matchup between Bueckers and Clark. The Fever (24-13) currently occupy the No. 4 seed, while the Wings (21-16) are clinging to the eighth and final playoff seed. Indiana will visit the New York Liberty on Saturday, Aug. 22.
Dallas will host the Seattle Storm on Sunday, Aug. 23.
