The Arizona Cardinals' Trey McBride made a significant jump in the NFL Top 100 list for the upcoming season, landing at No. 13 overall, as voted on by fellow active NFL players. Speaking at a Cardinals media session amid training camp, the Pro Bowl tight end said he'd learned of the spot "a while back," calling it "very cool" to receive the higher placement this year. Last season, he was 65th overall, making for a serious jump.
"I've known for probably three months or so that I was that, so, it's been cool, just the anticipation of everyone not knowing," he told reporters, adding, "To be the 13th wow, some of those names in front of me, some of those names behind me, there's some really good players." "I'm very honored to get the respect from my teammates, my competitors, everybody in this league. It's very special," McBride said, calling his spot on the list a "dream come true." The former 2022 second-round pick had career highs with 126 receptions, 1,239 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns last season.
That earned him a second consecutive Pro Bowl appearance, and the 26-year-old has become one of the best tight ends in the game. With elder stars Rob Gronkowski retired and the Kansas City Chiefs' Travis Kelce in the tail end of his career, it leaves the door open for McBride to shine under the spotlight as his career continues. He'll play his first season without Kyler Murray at quarterback, as Murray parted ways with the team this offseason and is now suiting up for the Minnesota Vikings.
Instead, veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett will be QB1 for Arizona. In addition, they drafted running back Jeremiyah Love high in the first round, making him a major part of the offense. That said, it should be interesting to see if McBride continues to rack up big stats or takes a step back.
