Cardinals Urged to Turn to Rookie QB Carson Beck After Giants Loss

The Cardinals have been urged to turn to rookie Carson Beck after another loss exposed continued problems with Arizona's offense.

The Arizona Cardinals were one of the biggest surprises from Week 1, upsetting the Los Angeles Chargers 26-14 in LA. Three weeks later, that win might say more about the state of the Chargers than it does about how good Arizona is. The Cardinals have since lost three straight and allowed at least 30 points in each game, with losses to the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants.

Through it all, Jacoby Brissett has done little to justify head coach Mike LaFleur's decision to keep him as the starter. Over those three games, Brissett has thrown for 541 yards and five touchdowns with four interceptions, including a game against Seattle in which he managed just 95 passing yards. On Tuesday, former Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart joined Yahoo Sports Daily and floated the idea that LaFleur should turn to rookie quarterback Carson Beck as the starter.

Obviously, he's been pretty good, and Arizona's been competitive this year. But if you're looking at the big picture, I don't think Jacoby Brissett is a franchise-changing quarterback. He kind of is what he is.

He's had a [expletive] of a career, and he's capable. Carson Beck had a great preseason, from what I remember watching and obviously covering him in college. He was older in college, was a big-time recruit, and played at a high level at Georgia and then Miami.

I think he's ready to give it a shot ... I'm sure he knows the playbook. He proved in the preseason that he can play a little bit, and he's got some pieces around him.

So why not?" More news: Saints Pro Bowler Sends Loud and Clear Message to Teammates After Falcons Loss Beck entered the NFL with one of the more accomplished quarterbacks in the 2026 draft class. He spent five seasons at Georgia before transferring to Miami for 2025, finishing his college career with a 37-6 record as a starter. Across 55 games, Beck completed 69.5% of his passes for 11,725 yards, 88 touchdowns and 32 interceptions.
