Chargers Coaches Called Out With Embarrassing Stat Amid 0-7 Start

The Chargers fell to 0-7, and HC Jim Harbaugh and OC Mike McDaniel have interesting history with how it happened.

The Los Angeles Chargers were stubborn in a few areas during their bye in Week 7, deciding to allow first-year offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel to continue calling plays and choosing not to shop players before the trade deadline on Nov. 10 despite an 0-6 start. The Chargers were hoping to turn things around on Sunday when they played the Los Angeles Rams. Los Angeles took a 9-3 lead in the second quarter but allowed the Rams to score 21 unanswered points in a 24-9 loss in front of 73,621 fans at SoFi Stadium.

Per ESPN Insights, The Chargers' 0-7 start is the first time for the franchise since the 2000 season. Current Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh was the starting quarterback for the team that year. The Chargers, then in San Diego, finished with a 1-15 record.

Los Angeles has gone 27 straight drives without scoring a touchdown. That is now the longest streak in the league since the Miami Dolphins did so in 2024, when McDaniel was the head coach.

Last week, quarterback Justin Herbert defended McDaniel, saying the players have not been doing what they're supposed to do to score points. "It's not his fault," Herbert said, via the Chargers. "It's our fault as an offense.

We have to do our job, and it's not Mike's fault," Herbert said. "Guys are open and plays aren't being made, it's on us to run, to block, to catch, to throw. It's on us as an offense." Herbert finished Sunday's game going 24 of 32 passing for 257 yards and two interceptions.

The running game totaled 64 yards on 25 carries, 2.56 yards per rush. Coming out of the bye, the Chargers' performance was less than promising. It'll be interesting to see if the Chargers make changes to the coaching staff or decide to trade players after the loss to the Rams.
