Adam Schefter said someone within the Los Angeles Chargers firmly denied rumors of a possible Justin Herbert trade.

The Los Angeles Chargers are 0-5 to begin the 2026 NFL season, continuing their losing skid with a 23-17 loss to the Denver Broncos this past Sunday. Chargers franchise quarterback Justin Herbert has been objectively bad through the first five games of the year, completing 59.4% of his pass attempts for 937 yards, five touchdowns and a league-leading seven interceptions. Herbert's poor play and the Chargers' winless record has sparked an interesting question around the NFL world.

Could Los Angeles trade their franchise quarterback? According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Chargers are firmly against that idea. "Spoke to somebody [in the Chargers organization]. ...

The person basically cut me off mid sentence. Stopped me in my tracks and said 'Let me be very clear about this. We have never even discussed that idea.' The sentence 'Should we trade Justin Herbert' has never once been uttered in our organization, nor will it be," Schefter said on Tuesday.

Herbert threw an interception and took five sacks in Sunday's Week 5 loss to the Broncos. Herbert and the Chargers will look to notch their first win of the season in a Week 6 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs this coming Sunday. Then, they'll take a break with their Week 7 bye.
