Charlton's 100 per cent record was brought to and end but they remain unbeaten as Tyreece Campbell's second-half strike earned a 1-1 draw against West Brom. Nathan Jones' side were looking to continue their blistering start to the campaign - but spent the majority of the game on the back foot against the Baggies. They frustrated the home side who finally broke the deadlock with a thunderous Callum Styles strike just before the hour mark.
But having soaked up waves of pressure - Campbell fired home from close range after 69 minutes to earn a point for his side. It was Albion who had the upper hand over the high flying Addicks in the opening 20 minutes at The Hawthorns. Felix Horn Myhre headed over after just two minutes before Callum Styles tried his luck from range.
Ousmane Diakite saw a shot deflected wide after good work from lively full debutant Kareem Tunde, who was causing problems for the visitors on the right flank. He pulled a shot wide from distance on the 20-minute mark, while Isaac Price tested Charlton shot stopper Arthur Okonkwo, with Albion dominating possession. But despite having more of the ball and a handful of half chances - the Baggies were struggling to turn their territory into clear-cut opportunities against a resilient Charlton back line.
The second period began in much the same fashion as Price saw an effort flash wide just seconds after the restart - with Albion flying back out of the blocks. It felt like the Baggies were going to need something special to break the Addicks' rearguard, and so it proved after 59 minutes.
After half-time substitute Rabby Nzingoula had drawn a top save out of Okonkwo, Styles ended a 16-month wait for a goal as he rifled home from 18 yards out, after Charlton failed to clear a Price corner. It was exactly what Albion deserved but having dominated possession and restricted Charlton to nothing by way of chances - Jones' side levelled 10 minutes later with their first shot on target. They countered down the left and Miles Leaburn headed substitute Ivan Mesik's cross into the path of Campbell - who fired home through a crowd of bodies to land Albion with a sucker punch.
Up to that point Charlton had hardly troubled the home side - but they somehow found themselves on level terms. After the goal sparked a spell of pressure from the visitors, it was Albion who were again back on the front foot heading into the final throes of the game. But they could not find an equaliser and were left to settle for a frustrating point.
