Christopher Nolan‘s thriller “The Prestige” is returning to theaters next year in honor of the movie’s 20th anniversary. Disney has scheduled a Jan. 29, 2027, re-release for the film, which will play for the first time on 70mm and Imax screens. In the two decades since, Nolan has revolutionized those premium formats and stoked mass interest in Imax and the ilk through blockbusters like “Oppenheimer” and “The Odyssey.” “I’m very excited to bring ‘The Prestige’ back to the big screen, and particularly thrilled to offer audiences the chance to see it on 70mm film, and on Imax for the first time,” Nolan said in a statement.

Originally released on Oct. 20, 2006, “The Prestige” follows the decades-long rivalry between two stage magicians (Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman). Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hall, Andy Serkis and David Bowie round out the cast. The twisty thriller had generated roughly $100 million at the global box office and was nominated for two Oscars.

In addition to directing, Nolan co-wrote the film with his brother, Jonathan, and produced alongside his wife, Emma Thomas, and Aaron Ryder. In the 20 years since “The Prestige,” Nolan has solidified himself as the biggest directing draw of his generation after making film such as “Dark Knight” trilogy, “Inception,” “Interstellar,” “Oppenheimer” and “The Odyssey.” After winning the first Oscars of his career for 2023’s “Oppenheimer,” including best director and best picture, Nolan is back in the awards race with “The Odyssey.” His latest tentpole has been a certified sensation with $1.788 billion globally, including a record-breaking $550 million in Imax.
