No. 8 Texas Tech flirted with disaster early in the season by getting off to slow starts before finding ways to finish and compiling a 6-0 record. The Red Raiders got burned one week after their best win of the season, a 53-25 drubbing of Arizona State. TTU's offense had another frustrating start on the road against Cincinnati on Saturday, trailing the Bearcats 24-6 at halftime.
Texas Tech would go on to lose the game 37-24 at Nippert Stadium. Following the game, TTU booster Cody Campbell posted a stern message on X (and tagging Texas Tech Football) about the loss, saying there was no excuse for the Red Raiders to blow that game against Cincinnati, who came into the contest with a 4-2 record. We have to be better," Campbell posted. The loss to Cincinnati had extra intrigue for Texas Tech, as the two teams were in the middle of the Brendan Sorsby controversy this summer before the Red Raiders decided not to allow the quarterback to play this season after facing pressure from the Big 12. Fans on X reminded Campbell of the comments he made in the offseason when he hinted Texas Tech would run up the scoreboard in the Big 12 after the way the conference treated the Red Raiders.
"We’re not going to forget about that, and I don’t think they’ll forget about it either when we’re up by 40 and still throwing the ball in the fourth quarter," Campbell said. "That’s where the retribution will come.” The passing game left a lot to be desired for Texas Tech on Saturday. The Red Raiders had to settle for five field goal attempts, converting four of them.
Will Hammond went 24 of 37 passing for 227 yards and one interception. He was unable to convert deep in Bearcats territory, and that cost TTU a chance to improve to 7-0. Texas Tech will next host No. 25 Arizona on Halloween.
