The Washington Commanders have had a tough start to the season, as evidenced by their 1-4-1 record. Although the Commanders are struggling this season, the possibility of them adding to their roster ahead of the trade deadline should not be ruled out. This is especially so if a potential target would have the potential to benefit them beyond this season.
Now, the Commanders are being linked to a notable wide receiver trade candidate because of it. In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Zach Buckley predicted that the Commanders will acquire Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. ahead of the trade deadline. "Prediction: Thomas is traded to the Washington Commanders," Buckley wrote.
Thomas has been creating a lot of chatter in the rumor mill as a trade candidate. The 24-year-old could use a change of scenery and could benefit from having a significant role on a team like the Commanders. With Thomas being a young wide receiver who has had past success, it would make sense for Washington to pursue him.
This is especially so when noting that the Commanders' offense is in need of a high-impact wide receiver. Thomas has previously shown that he can make a big difference when playing at his best. As a rookie with the Jaguars in 2024, he posted 10 touchdowns, 87 receptions, and 1,282 receiving yards.
He followed that up this past season by recording two touchdowns, 48 receptions, and 707 receiving yards in 14 games. Overall, with the Commanders needing another wide receiver, it would not be too surprising if they had Thomas on their radar. It will be interesting to see if they can strike a deal for him from here.
