Late last month, Winnipeg Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck publicly confirmed that he requested a trade from the Central Division club. Hellebuyck requested a trade from the Jets several months before he made it public, so there is no question that he has been waiting for a while to get moved. Now, the situation between Hellebuyck and the Jets has taken a dramatic turn.
During a recent episode of TSN Insider Trading, Darren Dreger said he believes Hellebuyck will not report to the start of the Jets' training camp. "I do not believe Connor Hellebuyck will report to the opening of Winnipeg Jets training camp this week," Dreger said. With Hellebuyck making it known to the public that he wants out of Winnipeg, it is not surprising to hear that he is expected not to report to the start of training camp.
It is clear that he wants to be traded, and it will be interesting to see if the Jets can find him a new home before the start of the season. A few teams that could use some help between the pipes include the New Jersey Devils, Buffalo Sabres, and Carolina Hurricanes. In 57 games last season for the Jets, Hellebuyck posted a 23-23-11 record, a 2.86 goals-against average, and an .895 save percentage.
This was after the 11-year NHL veteran won the Hart Memorial Trophy, Vezina Trophy, and William M. Jennings Trophy in 2024-25, where he had a 47-12-3 record, a 2.00 goals-against average, and a .925 save percentage in 62 games.
