The NFL caused quite a stir this week with the amount of fines they dished out, especially to players for their respective touchdown celebrations. Among those were San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who the NFL fined $14,926 for a celebration in which it believed he was imitating chugging a beer, and Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson, who was also fined for a similar celebration. Washington that ‘constituted an offensive demonstration and could reasonably could be construed as being in poor taste,’” ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted.
Any player assessed a fine by the NFL has the right to appeal, which is exactly what Ferguson plans to do. Ferguson has a process he needs to go through to get his fine thrown out, which includes having his case heard by one of three appeals officers. All three are former players.
The officer’s decision is final, and the ruling is binding. If the discipline is upheld, the league withholds the amount of the fine from the player’s next check. If the player’s fine is rescinded, he will receive notification of the decision, and no money will be taken from his check.”
