Crunchyroll revealed a slate of exciting new projects at NYCC 2026, including a new partnership to produce anime adaptations of 15 popular webtoons.

New York Comic Con 2026 was packed with news and exciting announcements from the entertainment world. While many eyes were set on the Marvel panel to catch the latest updates on the always-evolving state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, anime had a strong presence too. Thousands of people showed up for the premiere of the first episode of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus.

Meanwhile, Crunchyroll announced an exciting slate of projects, including a new partnership completely focused on adapting popular webtoons. During the Crunchyroll Showcase panel, the company presented a packed lineup that included anime, theatrical projects, manga, and more. One of the highlights was the announcement of a partnership with Hayate, a Japanese anime production company established by Aniplex, and Line Digital Frontier Corporation, a subsidiary of Webtoon Entertainment.

The three companies will work together to develop anime adaptations of approximately 15 popular webtoons available through Line Digital Frontier's mobile application. The first three titles in the lineup were presented during the panel, with some exciting trailers already available to watch. Webtoons have become a very popular form of entertainment in the past few years.

Series published on platforms like Line, Webtoon, and KakaoPage accumulate millions of views, boosting global fandoms eager for animated adaptations. The success of the Solo Leveling anime, adapted from a web novel and webcomic published on KakaoPage, made the industry aware of the potential of these IPs. Crunchyroll and its parent company Sony are ready to lead the charge thanks to this new collaboration.

According to a news release, "Hayate will lead the development and production in collaboration with Crunchyroll and Line Digital Frontier, and Crunchyroll will exclusively stream the resulting anime in select territories." The first three titles announced are The Remarried Empress, Teenage Mercenary, and The Boxer. The Crunchyroll Showcase kicked off with a world premiere of a sneak peek at Sekiro: No Defeat, the anime based on the video game by FromSoftware. The series, produced by Kadowaka, Qzil.la and Arch, is fully hand-drawn, and it will stream its eight episodes exclusively on Crunchyroll starting in January 2027.

Ghost of Tsushima is also getting an anime based on its online multiplayer mode. NYCC attendees could catch a first look at Ghost of Tsushima Legends. The series is produced in collaboration by Hayate and PlayStation Productions, and it will arrive in 2028.
