Peacock has released a full trailer for the new Linda Cardellini-led series “Crystal Lake.” The show, a prequel to the events of “Friday the 13th,” is set to premiere on the streamer on Oct. 15. The trailer opens on Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees in 1971, transporting audiences back to the mother’s life before the events of the first film. That includes the drowning of her son, Jason, and what happens to her life after — namely, her murderous, revenge-fuelled descent following the incident.
While the trailer features a few eerie shots, it seems Peacock is saving the biggest scares for the show’s premiere. Speaking with Variety’s Marc Malkin last month, Cardellini said, “It does get gory, yes, so much so that I wish sometimes they weren’t as practical as they were. There are a couple of gory moments on set that were very practical that were pretty gross.
Blood everywhere at one point.” In addition to Cardellini, the cast includes Callum Vinson (“Chucky,” “Long Bright River”), Nick Cordileone (“Warrior”), Joy Suprano (“Fleishman is in Trouble,” “Best Foot Forward”), Danielle Kotch (“Director’s Cut”), and Phoenix Parnevik (“Bel-Air,” “Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter Is Dead”). William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom will also appear as series regulars. Released in 1980, the original “Friday the 13th” film was a major success, grossing nearly $60 million on a reported budget of less than $600,000.
Brad Caleb Kane serves as the show’s creator, writer, showrunner and executive producer. Also executive producing are A24, Victor Miller, who wrote the original film, Marc Toberoff, Robert M. Barsamian, Stuart Manashil, Tyson Bidner and Michael Lennox.
