DC says 2027 will be the "Year of Wonder" with new Wonder Woman comics and more on the way.

Next year will be huge for one member of DC's Trinity, and we aren't talking about Superman. DC is calling 2027 the "Year of Wonder," which will be an "unforgettable year of stories from celebrated comic book creators." With Tom King and Daniel Sampere’s somewhat controversial Wonder Woman run coming to an end in December, we finally know what’s next for the character in the short term. Writer Louise Simonson (X-Factor, Conan the Barbarian, Power Pack, The Death of Superman) will pick up where King’s run left off with Wonder Woman #41.

It will be a four-issue story with Cian Tormey on art. After this arc, Eisner Award-nominated writer Stephanie Williams (Wonder Woman, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur) will take over the seriesalongside artist Elena Casagrande for six issues ending in October 2027. Notably, it seems that neither writer will be taking over the series indefinitely and that a new long-term team hasn’t been announced.

DC also promises "more Wonder Woman stories and superstar creators will be revealed" throughout 2027. Simonson’s run will pick up as Diana attempts to overturn the Amazon Safety Act, which has prevented Amazonians from leaving their island. "I haven’t written many books with female leads, and they don’t come any more iconic than Diana," Simonson said in a press release.

"Teaming her up with Lois Lane, another iconic character, is a dream come true. Throw in Granny Goodness and her Female Furies? It doesn’t get more fun than that." DC revealed a first look at the covers for Wonder Woman #41, with the main cover by Ryan Sook and variants from Daniel Sampere, David Nakayama, Cian Tormey, and Walter Simonson.

The 32-page issue arrives on Jan. 20, 2027, and will be priced at $4.99. As for Williams' run, it will follow a team-up between Wonder Woman and Nubia. "Diana has my whole heart," Williams said.

"Getting to come back to her world after Wonder Woman and Matriarch feels like coming home, only this time with a longer runway. Six issues gives me room to really sit with Diana, to let her be fierce and funny and compassionate all at once, and to let the story breathe in a way I’m so excited for readers to experience. Plus, I finally get to work in the Nubia team-up I’ve been wanting to tell for a long time, but this time they won’t be going to Las Vegas." King, who is best known for Mister Miracle, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and, most recently, co-creating the HBO series Lanterns, began his Wonder Woman run in 2023.
