Ryan Reynolds’ involvement with the MCU might not be over just yet. According to a leak from CartierFilms, Reynolds is writing a Marvel project centered on the Canadian superhero group Alpha Flight. It’s unclear whether the group will get its own dedicated movie or be featured prominently in the next Deadpool film.

Earlier this year, Reynolds teased that he will return to the MCU as the merc with a mouth. CartierFilms also claimed that a new actor is in talks to take the reins as Wolverine, and could debut in the Alpha Flight project. Alpha Flight first appeared in April 1979 in The Uncanny X-Men issue 120.

They’re a Canadian superhero group initially created by John Byrne as part of Wolverine’s backstory, but later got a dedicated series of their own. Alpha Flight ran from 1983 to 1995 for 130 issues. Since then, the group has had a few miniseries, but has mostly been relegated to cameos and brief appearances, such as in the What If? comic anthology.

The original members of the group are as follows: Sasquatch, a scientist who turned himself into a giant hairy creature using gamma radiation; Northstar, a mutant with superhuman speed and flight (who also happened to be the first major, openly gay character created by Marvel Comics); Snowbird, a demigoddess with shape-shifting abilities; Shaman, a magic-wielding doctor and member of the Tsuutʼina Nation; Aurora, a mutant who can turn invisible; and finally Guardian, the Canadian equivalent of Captain America. As for the upcoming X-Men film that’s scheduled for May 5, 2028, CartierFilms said that Disney is eyeing Morgan Spector for the role. Spector is best known for his appearances in TV series such as The Gilded Age and Homeland.

CartierFilms also claimed that Cailee Spaeny auditioned for Polaris in the X-Men movie and that she’ll appear in some capacity. In other casting news, the film has found its Kitty Pryde, and they’re casting an Asian female character who may be Jubilee. While the upcoming X-Men film is still over a year away, this year's Avengers: Doomsday and its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, are expected to bid farewell to the old X-Men cast while segueing into a new era of mutants.
