The Arizona Diamondbacks are moving on from one of their relief pitchers. This is because the Diamondbacks have announced that they have designated relief pitcher Andrew Hoffmann for assignment. Hoffmann appeared in eight games this season with the Diamondbacks, where he posted a 1-0 record, a 7.71 ERA, and 12 strikeouts in 11.2 innings pitched.
His most recent appearance at the big league level was back on April 28 against the Milwaukee Brewers, where he allowed seven earned runs in just 0.1 innings pitched. Hoffmann also made 12 relief appearances for Triple-A Reno this campaign, where he posted a 1-1 record, a 6.08 ERA, and 11 strikeouts. He has been sidelined for Triple-A Reno since June due to injury and was on the 60-day injured list before being designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks.
With Hoffmann being designated for assignment, he will be hitting waivers. Teams looking for more pitching depth could consider claiming the 6-foot-5 righty, but his ongoing injury could lead to them staying away for now. In 19 career MLB games over two seasons split between the Kansas City Royals and Diamondbacks, Hoffmann has posted a 1-0 record, a 6.85 ERA, and 24 strikeouts.
