The Arizona Diamondbacks have added to their depth, as they have signed infielder Santiago Espinal to a minor league deal.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have added to their infield depth by signing a former All-Star. This is because the Diamondbacks have signed infielder Santiago Espinal to a minor league contract. Triple-A Reno announced the move, and the 31-year-old has been assigned to their roster.

Espinal appeared in 36 games this season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he recorded one home run, seven RBI, and a .268 batting average. Overall, he proved to be a decent depth player with the Dodgers, but they still released him earlier this campaign. Santiago also played in 11 games with Triple-A Round Rock this season, where he posted zero home runs, six RBI, and a .262 batting average.

Now, he will be looking to make a real impact with Triple-A Reno in hopes of having his contract selected by the Diamondbacks before the season is over. In 614 career MLB games over seven seasons split between the Toronto Blue Jays, Cincinnati Reds, and Dodgers, Espinal has posted 21 home runs, 167 RBI, and a .261 batting average. He was also an MLB All-Star during the 2022 season while with the Blue Jays.

It will be interesting to see if he gets the chance to improve upon his career stats with Arizona before the season is done.
