The Los Angeles Dodgers are moving on from one of their pitchers. The Dodgers have announced that they have designated pitcher Jonathan Hernandez for assignment. The Dodgers also shared that pitcher Brock Stewart has been activated from the 15-day injured list.
Hernandez appeared in 16 games this season with the Dodgers before being designated for assignment, where he posted a 0-0 record, a 5.68 ERA, and 22 strikeouts. Overall, he struggled a bit this season with Los Angeles. Hernandez has also made 20 appearances at the Triple-A level this campaign, where he has a 1-0 record, two saves, 28 strikeouts, and a 5.24 ERA.
Teams looking for more pitching depth could consider taking a gamble on Hernandez with a waiver claim. The 6-foot-3 righty has had some past success in the majors as a relief pitcher, so he could help out a team's bullpen if he bounced back. In 143 career MLB games over six seasons split between the Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners, and Dodgers, Hernandez has recorded a 13-8 record, a 4.49 ERA, and 172 strikeouts.
It will be interesting to see if he will get the chance to improve upon these career stats with another team before the season is over.
