The Miami Dolphins could very well end up with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. Mike McDaniel, who brought them to the postseason during his first two seasons as head coach, was fired on Jan. 8. Tua Tagovailoa is quite literally being paid $100 million to play elsewhere after being cut on March 9.
Jaylen Waddle and Minkah Fitzpatrick were traded away to the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers, respectively. Tyreek Hill and Bradley Chubb were released in order to save some money. I’d list off more but it would be rather difficult to go through the 34 names that were lost between March and July… Jeff Hafley (head coach), Kadyn Proctor (first-round offensive tackle), and Chris Johnson (first-round cornerback) are some names that have been brought aboard to kickstart the rebuild, but only one man can accelerate it: Height: 6' 1”Weight: 225lbsAge: 27Contract: 3yr, $67.5M2025: 4 G, 0-1 W-L, 422 PASS YDS, 3 TD, 0 INT Willis has never quite been given any real opportunities.
The Tennessee Titans allowed him to start just three games as a rookie – which didn’t go well, he finished with zero touchdown passes and three interceptions – before stapling him to the bench in favor of Ryan Tannehill and Josh Dobbs. Will Levis was then drafted, all but ending the sophomore’s stint in The Music City. The Green Bay Packers must have seen something they liked in limited snaps, trading for him and making him the backup to Jordan Love.
Willis impressed in limited snaps, but they already paid the other guy so that was never going to last. The Dolphins are his third team in five seasons, but this time there will be no shortage of opportunities. Willis didn’t receive top-tier quarterback money, but he secured a strong guarantee ($45 million) that outweighs what Sam Darnold received from the Seattle Seahawks and what Baker Mayfield received from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
If they believe in him that much, they must believe he’s the kind of guy who can take the worst roster in the league to a point where the end of their rebuild is in sight. If he can’t, he’ll be viewed as just another failed quarterback reclamation project that couldn’t get a rebuild on track.
