Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is not one to shy away from letting his opinion be heard. During the most recent episode of his podcast, Green weighed in on the Miami Heat's recent signing of his former Warriors teammate Klay Thompson. Thompson signed a two-year, $11.5 million contract with the Heat earlier this week, securing his new home ahead of his 14th active NBA campaign.
Green feels the media is putting too much pressure on Thompson to succeed, saying he's not the player he once was. "I feel like everyone's trying to set Klay up for failure," Green said. "Let’s stop acting like 2017 Klay is going to Miami." Thompson just finished his second season with the Dallas Mavericks.
Through 69 appearances, the 36-year-old guard averaged a career-low 11.7 points per game and shot a career-low 39.3% from behind the 3-point arc. Thompson will look to turn back the clock and return to his elite shooting ways with the Heat this coming season, providing outside scoring around an elite front court featuring Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. The Heat will begin their 2026-27 NBA season with a matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Oct. 21.
