This very website gave Album Of The Week honors to Free Energy, the great 2024 LP from the spaced-out Los Angeles experimental rock band Dummy. Later this week, Dummy will follow that record with a new LP called do you love the color of the sky?, and we've already posted their singles "Full Spectrum Dominance," "April Limousine," and "Alluvial Fan." With just a few days before the new LP arrives, Dummy have one more song for us. The new Dummy track "N Of 1" is a nice demonstration of why this band sets apart.
They're great at the spectral-stargazing stuff, the waves of synth and guitar that everyone loves nowadays. But they also keep things moving, making sure to anchor those sounds to sneaky hooks and big, thumping beats. On "N Of 1," guitarist Joe Trainor says, "I liked the idea of taking glacial guitar drones and cutting ‘em up into a new context of the jungle inspired drums.
To me, so much of the record is like the remixed versions of pop songs you'll never hear." Check it out below. do you love the color of the sky? is out 10/16 on Polyvinyl.
